Mr. Umar Japar from the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) visited Sabah Skills & Technology Centre (SSTC) recently to present certificate of completion to trainees of the Protective Coating Technician, Safety Induction and Emergency Training apprentice program. His visit was welcomed by SSTC’s Director, Madam Natalie Fung and Training Manager, Ms. Jennifer Michael.
The program commenced on 6th April 2022 with a training period of 1-month. Fully sponsored by SEDIA, it is to equip the trainees with new knowledge and skills in the areas of the oil and gas industry. The program also aims to improve skills utilization, employment, and career progression opportunities amongst youth especially in State of Sabah. Throughout the program, trainees were taught and exposed to a variety of topics which consists of Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (TBOSIET), Emergency Breathing System (EBS) and Travel Safely by Boat; an OPITO approved program, basics of Shielded Metal Art Welding 3G (SMAW) and the Protective Coating Technician Blaster and/or Painter Level 1 and Level 2, a 5-day certification program by the Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM).
A total of 20 trainees from various background were selected through an interview screening conducted by the SSTC.
