Sabah Skills & Technology Centre announces its newly elected board members and highlights major achievements in the past year.
Sabah Skills & Technology Centre (SSTC) held its 23rd Annual General Meeting on 27 June 2023 at its centre, bringing together approximately 50 attendees from 29 member companies. The meeting witnessed the election of a new management team for the term 2023-2025. The previous Chairman, Datuk John Choo (Ken Chong Food Industries Sdn Bhd), and Deputy Chairman, Tuan Haji Sumardi Mohd Yusof (Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd), retained their positions uncontested. Additionally, five prominent companies were revoted in as SSTC’s Management Council Members, namely Angkatan Hebat Sdn Bhd, Steel Industries (S) Sdn Bhd, Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd, KKIP Sdn Bhd, and Nippon Paint (Sabah) Sdn Bhd.
Throughout the past year, SSTC has achieved significant milestones, positioning itself as a leading institution for skills development and industry advancement. Notably, the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) selected SSTC to conduct the MyReskill IOT program, benefitting 43 companies directly by providing them with hands-on experience in Industry 4.0 technologies.
SSTC also received support from Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (YPPB), which approved the training of 153 youths through special courses such as Site Safety Supervisor, Certificate in Good Manufacturing Practices for Food Industry, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points and Internal Audit, and Certificate in Oil Palm Plantation Technology & Management.
An additional group of 82 youths were supported by Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA), receiving training in areas including Certificate in Protective Coating Technician & Safety Induction and Emergency Training, and Certificate in Food Handling (Kitchen Offshore).
Through collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation Sabah (MOSTI), SSTC successfully coordinated the ‘Upskilling Program on Deeptech & Future Skills’ leading to employment opportunities for 533 trainees.
Reflecting on the successes of 2022, SSTC signed collaborative Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with four key associations: MICCI Sabah Chapter, KKIP Investors Council (KIC), Sabah Freight Forwarders & Logistics Association (SABFFLA), and Persatuan Pengusaha Lori Kontena Kota Kinabalu (PPLKKK).
During the Annual General Meeting, SSTC took the opportunity to honour companies that demonstrated exceptional commitment to employee development. The Star Supporter Award was presented to recognize the companies that sent the highest number of employees to attend training at SSTC in 2022. Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd was awarded the Gold Star Supporter for their outstanding contribution, followed by Nippon Paint (Sabah) Sdn Bhd receiving the Silver Star Supporter award, and Hong Sing Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd winning the Bronze Star Supporter award.
In addition, SSTC extended a warm welcome to its new members and presented them with plaques in recognition of their membership. The five new members who received this honor are FFM (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, FFM Flour Mills (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, Bayam Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Max Energy Sdn Bhd, and Syarikat Sri Wang Engineering (Sabah) Sdn Bhd.
Also presented during the meeting were SSTC permanent advisors, Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Thau and Dr. Kok Tiong Chee and Treasurer, Ms. Anita Dhawan.
