Kota Kinabalu, 28 August 2025 – The Sabah Skills & Technology Centre (SSTC) formalised a strategic collaboration with the Sabah Enhanced Travel Innovation Association (SETIA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 28 August 2025 at SSTC, Kota Kinabalu. The MoU was then signed by Datuk John Choo, Chairman of SSTC, and Ms. Christina Wahida Kong, Chairman of SETIA. The signing was witnessed by Ms. Natalie Fung, Director of SSTC, and Ms. Imelda A. Angkangon, representing SETIA.
In response to the recent rise in tourism-related incidents and the government’s call for reinforced safety protocols, SETIA in collaboration with SSTC has worked together in spearheading a specialized Defensive Driving Training Program tailored for tourism vehicle operators. This proactive initiative, strongly backed by the Sabah Tourism Board, is aimed at enhancing road safety awareness and minimizing the risk of accidents.
Two confirmed sessions of the pioneering Defensive Driving Course for Tourism Industry Drivers, to be conducted by SSTC, are scheduled for September and November 2025. Each session will span two full days and will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). Through this MoU, SSTC and SETIA will collaborate in the joint marketing and promotion of training programmes and services, with the objective of enhancing skills development, knowledge sharing, and capacity building across industries in Sabah.

The event commenced with a guided tour of SSTC’s training facilities for the SETIA delegation, where participants were introduced to the institution’s facilities including classes, workshops, laboratories, and resources that demonstrate SSTC’s role as a premier centre for skills development and technology training.
The SSTC–SETIA partnership is expected to pave the way for the implementation of joint initiatives, co-branded programmes, and expanded industry engagement, in line with both organisations’ shared mission of nurturing talent and fostering innovation for Sabah’s sustainable growth.
